Weekly update #2

One week down. Here’s what happened.

What got done:

  • Iowa AFL-CIO endorsed us. Huge. I’ll be adding their logo to our lit and website.

  • On Tha Ground Foundation endorsed us. Great momentum, continuing to work on building a broad coalition.

  • Met with Rachel - she’s a Spanish teacher at FDSH and will be our part-time campaign manager, starting slowly while finishing the school year.

  • Knocked 72 doors in Fort Dodge - (Precinct 11) (ahead of goal - will definitely hit the 100 by the end of the weekend)

  • Met with Charles Clayton - community leader, the head of AFES, and the 2020 candidate for this seat. He shared his experience running against our incumbent and gave me thoughtful advice on how to reach voters and being a first-time candidate. He plans to introduce Rachel and me to a few people.

  • Recorded 2 videos for social media

  • Made progress on securing office space for the party - we’ll use it as a volunteer/canvassing/event staging area, and also as a mutual aid site. We can impact our community even before taking office, and it’s a great way to engage with the community!

  • Townhall event with Ashley WolfTornabane (Congress District 4) and Rachel Burns (House District 7) went great! Around 40 people attended, and I met several new folks.

What I’m struggling with:

  • Artistic Flair - We could use some design ideas for yard signs, buttons, flyers, etc. Goal: something more engaging than the typical LAST NAME sign

  • Event ideas you guys might like - We’re working on a list of events beyond traditional canvassing or phone banking - feel free to share ideas (e.g., bowling, trivia night at a brewery, pet parade, etc)

Next week’s goals:

  • Get Rachel set up with GetThru and VoteBuilder

  • Schedule a stream event - likely something to be going on regularly - great to engage busy working families, build support, maybe a great educational platform, and make me more accessible to rural voters

  • Raise $300 (can you chip in $10? https://secure.actblue.com/donate/kris-williams-1)

  • Knock 100 Doors

Upcoming Event(s):

  • Coming Soon: an engaging event and a canvassing event in May. Details to follow.

One ask for you:

  • What’s one event you’d actually attend? Bowling? Trivia? A potluck? Better yet, would you host a small gathering at your place or a local spot?  Even 5 people make a difference. Reply with your idea!
