Weekly update #5
The Kris Williams for Iowa House campaign team was hard at work again this week! Here is the weekly update:
What got done:
Endorsements:
Run for Something (RFS) - a national organization that recruits and supports the next generation of progressive leaders for state and local office. They’ve already helped elect over 1,400 candidates across the country, and now their grassroots army and experience is standing with us in IA-HD08.
Iowa Progressive Democrats of America (PDA Iowa) -the grassroots arm of the progressive movement – fighting for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, worker rights, and getting big money out of politics. They don't endorse establishment-backed candidates who take corporate PAC money.
We also received the 2026 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction. Kris Williams holds to a strong commitment to common-sense gun safety.
Attended District 4 Caucus (5/2) - Kris went as a delegate and served on the platform committee. He was nominated for the State Central Committee and State Platform Committee. Unfortunately, he was not selected for the Central Committee, and he is waiting to hear the Platform Committee results. He spoke with other delegates who care about clean water, fair taxes, and putting people over profit. There was positivity surrounding the points Kris made about party change and serving working people.
Attended the Rob Sand strategy session (5/6) - It was exciting to see the large turnout of folks excited about Sand for governor. We discussed future opportunities for coordinated campaigns and heard about Sand's strategy moving forward in his campaign.
Hosted the second weekly office hour (5/7) - livestream office hour for questions and a behind-the-scenes look at the work of a first-time candidate. Will be weekly on Thursdays, 7-8 PM. So far on Twitch and Facebook
Knocked 101 doors in Fort Dodge! We are continuing to build name recognition to get the word out. Kris also wants his supporters to know he found a snake while knocking and is actively risking his life to put Iowa Families first.
Filled out Ballotpedia - one of the best sources to learn about candidates in any race.
Started calling lists of potential volunteers for upcoming events and name recognition.
Also, several more social media posts were made, along with new flyer designs and website updates.
Upcoming Event(s):
Canvas Event - May 23 at 10 am - we need your help to kick off our movement by knocking on doors. We are working on calling folks to get a volunteer list ready. RSVP on Facebook or on the website if you are interested. Starting location tba.
Weekly Office Hour – Thursdays, 7–8 PM on Twitch and Facebook
Fort Dodge Pride - June 27 - Kris Williams for Iowa House will have a vendor table. Come say hi!
What I’m struggling with:
Canvass Event Support: With the event, I know knocking doors might not be up everyone's alley. If you'd still like to help, respond to this email. We could use help with refreshments (we were considering either donuts before going out or pizza for after knocking).
Event Hosts: If you want to volunteer a space/activity to use for the campaign for upcoming community building events, respond to this email as well.
One ask for you:
Can you help us outnumber our opponents' yard signs? Donate Here for a yard sign
Next week’s goals:
Raise $300 (can you chip in $10?) Donate here!
Knock 100 more doors
Call more volunteers for the canvassing event
