Weekly update #6/7

We hope you all had a great week. Kris Williams and his team have once again been working hard to get him elected in District 8. Here is the week 6 update:

What got done:

  • Got endorsement from Next Century Forum, which backs candidates who represent the best interests of younger generations. We are very grateful for their support. A little about NCF: ¨Founded in 2025, Next Century Forum is a network of young progressives building power across the Des Moines metro and beyond. We’re organizing, learning, and showing up for the issues that matter—locally and statewide. From city halls to the statehouse, we’re here to make Iowa’s next century more inclusive, equitable, and unapologetically bold.¨

  • Attended “Make It OK” mental health event – they spoke about the urgent need for accessible mental health services, including for veterans. We can’t keep treating mental health as an afterthought, and it should be as important as physical health.

  • Attended City Council meeting – a provision passed to help cover fire department costs for non‑EMS falls (especially at nursing homes, where insurance expenses for a specific ‘care,’ but just sends first responders). This will help the city budget and ensure fair reimbursement. Also, the city farmers' market starts on June 13 -

  • Hosted the 3rd weekly office hour (5/14) - livestream office hour for questions and a behind-the-scenes look at the work of a first-time candidate. Will be weekly on Thursdays, 7-8 PM. So far onTwitch and Facebook

  • Knocked 120 doors - We are hearing from folks that they have issues with Iowa's clean water, school funding, costs of groceries and gas, and healthcare costs.

  • Found an excellent photographer to get some action shots while canvassing.

  • Kris met with a couple of organizations and local leaders to continue building coalition support behind the scenes of the movement.

  • Kris started coaching wiffleball – because community service comes in many forms! GO TEAM YELLOW!

  • Continued calling and texting with potential volunteers for upcoming events and for name recognition.

Upcoming Event(s):

  • Canvas Event - May 23 at 10 am - we need your help to kick- off our movement by knocking doors. We are working on calling folks to get a volunteer list ready. RSVP on facebook or on the website if you are interested. Starting location tba.

  • Weekly Office Hour – Thursdays, 7–8 PM on Twitch and Facebook

  • Fort Dodge Pride - June 27 - Kris Williams for Iowa House will have a vendor table. Come say hi!

  • Potential upcoming ice cream social  - tbd on date

  • Called more volunteers for the canvassing event (shout out to Rachel - called over 100+ over last couple weeks!)

One ask for you:

Can you help us outnumber our opponents' yard signs? Donate Here for a yard sign

Next week’s goals:

  • Raise $300 (can you chip in $10?) Donate here!

  • Knock 100 more doors each week

  • Getting our first batch of yard signs in!

  • Figure out date and time for the ice cream social event

What I’m struggling with:

  • Event Hosts: If you want to volunteer a space//activity to use for the campaign for upcoming community building events, respond to this email as well.

  • Supplies for events - we are on the lookout for folding tables and chairs for our ice cream social event.
